The oracle bone was used to divine the future. It was the shoulder of an ox or the shell of a tortoise and was used for decision making. The number of cracks or the way the bone cracks when heat was applied helped them make a decision. Ancestor worship is a practice that is based on the belief that dead family members have continued life in the after world.

CivilizationThere were three dynasties; the Han Dynasty, the Qin Dynasty, and the Shang Dynasty. There were activities that were listed in the traditions about things they did in the center square. There were also three major philosophies. These philosophies are Daoism, Legalism, and Confucianism. The philosopher for Daoism is thought to be Laozi but that is not determined. Daoism is about inner peace and being one with nature. The philosopher of Legalism was Hanfeizi. The main belief of Legalists is that humans can not be trusted, and therefore need to be kept in line with strict rules and harsh punishments. Confucious was the philosopher of Confucianism. Confucianism is focused on respect and treating others the way you want to be treated. All three of these philosophies are still believed in today.
